About
An attempt to gather and archive information about the band Angry Son. Speaking of,
Angry Son was a Post Punk / Emo band from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They were active from 1990-91, and never landed a label.
Story:
Mike and Dave started playing together at the home of Dave's parents in Oak City sometime in 1989-1990. Toby joined them and they recruited Chris Christopher Gooszen, creating the One Set Lie group. The rehearsals moved to the storage room owned by Chris's parents. Soon after, Toby, Mike, and Dave began working with Austin and formed Angry Son. The name is taken from the song Rites of Spring. The rehearsals continued in "Skinny Criminal's" - a small house that Toby rented, behind the big house where Mike lived.
All concerts were in Oklahoma City and Norman (cities in Oklahoma) along with local celebrities of the time - Janis 18, Chainsaw Kittens, and once they were invited to warm up to Nirvana, but Nirvana didn’t show. The group also had a couple of small tours, one with the original line-up, the second after Dave and Austin left the group. The original lineup visited Dallas (Texas), El Paso and Albuquerque (New Mexico), then joined in support of Fuel in Colorado Springs (Colorado), Rapid City (South Dakota), and Minneapolis (Minnesota) in the summer of 1990.
"Demo" was recorded in Oklahoma City Russ and Matt Hilbun. This demo is preserved on cassettes and is found only in digitizations of different quality. "Split EP" with Fuel was recorded during the tour. Skinny Criminal's demo was recorded later than the first demo on the boombox.
In 1991, Angry Son . Mike and Toby joined with Mike Landis (drums) and Wes Sharon (bass), and recorded the "Yesterday" cassette. According to rumors, the band broke up during a trip to California, the guys had a falling out and left Toby alone in San Francisco.
